Play the hit VR game Shooty Fruity in this years Play area led by Student Ambassadors from Sheffield Hallam University. Experience the heightened levels of immersion provided to games, and discover some of the potential future applications of this exciting technology. While in the Play area workshop make sure that you try out the VR research projects, sculpt models in VR, experience new forms of narrative and lots of new games from studios and students.

Ndreams Unreal

Make Area
Half day workshop – KS3 or KS4 interested in Design and Art.

Ndreams are the UK’s largest developer focused on VR that has an impressive roster of games such as the award-winning “The Assembly” and “Shooty Fruity”.

Using the powerful Unreal game engine learn how to design a level and techniques on how best to incorporate lighting. You will learn how particle effects and VFX can transform your levels. Once finished there will be a chance to experience your creation within Virtual Reality.

PSVR

Make Area

Virtual Reality and Smallpox on the PlayStation 4
Strictly 12+ only (manufacturer’s requirements)

A chance to participate in a PlayStation VR research project developed by Hallam’s Steel Minions Game Studio, with David Moore, Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University.

Discover the gruesome background to this historical research project about the history of vaccination, and the devastation that the Smallpox virus wreaked on the rich and poor alike in the 18th century. Take part in a real research study into virtual reality locomotion techniques in the PlayStation 4 lab.

Unreal

This workshop will provide hands – on experience using Epic’s state of the art Unreal 4 game engine.
You will start with the general design process and ending with a playable demo utilising work from our research centre rehab project.

Sea of Theives

Rare has developed some of the most memorable games over the last 30 years and the recent release of the amazing Sea of Thieves is no different. Exploring the seas you quickly discover Sea of Theives contains a treasure trove of unique characters.

In this workshop, you will learn expert tips and tricks on how to create your very own legendary pirate.
